How We Review Products
Last reviewed 2026
Our review process starts with the decision a reader is trying to make. We identify the features, limitations, trade-offs, and differences that are most likely to matter for that decision.
1. Define the buying question
Before comparing products, we identify the intended user, common use cases, important constraints, and the factors that could make one option more suitable than another.
2. Verify product information
We confirm important specifications and product facts using appropriate sources, with preference given to primary sources such as manufacturers, official documentation, and regulatory information where available.
3. Compare meaningful differences
We focus on differences that can affect the buying decision rather than simply repeating specification sheets. That can include compatibility, dimensions, features, maintenance, warranty terms, usability considerations, and other category-specific factors.
4. Separate research from hands-on testing
Research, specification comparison, and hands-on experience are treated as different forms of evidence. A product is not described as tested or personally used unless that experience has actually taken place and has been documented.
5. Explain suitability and trade-offs
Recommendations should explain who a product is best suited to, who may prefer an alternative, and what compromises are involved.
6. Editorial quality check
Before publication, drafts are reviewed for factual support, clarity, unsupported claims, affiliate disclosure, and consistency with our editorial standards.
Keeping articles current
Products and markets change. We may revise articles when specifications, availability, pricing, product generations, or other material information changes.
